Making A Citrulline Drink For My Pre Workout

I overheard my stepdaughter talking about a new energy drink she is using and she called it “pre-workout”.  There is a phenomenon happening right now and people are calling the pre workout supplements they take, “pre-workout”.  These newbs don’t even refer to it as, “I take a preworkout supplement before I workout”.  They just simply say, “I take pre-workout before I workout.”  As if all pre-workout supplements are the same.  Like saying,  “I eat apples before I workout”.  Pre workout supplements have become hugely popular and quite frankly most of them are garbage and they contain nothing but ingredients they have been around for over 20 years or more.  The only thing that has improved are the fancy labels and the bullshit marketing.

That leads me to think that why are people so quick to turn to pre workout supplements?  Instead, you can easily go to the grocery store and get yourself something better and healthier than pre workout supplements or energy drinks.

Take a look at what I bought today when I went to Wegman’s.

This is watermelon juice.  Watermelon juice contains a boatload of citrulline.  This is a great pre workout drink that will give you a pump and contains anti-oxidants for recovery.

Now, every once in a while I pull off some tricks and add Tectanic Red to this, or I’ll but some beet juice and mix the two together.  Talk about a potent pre workout that blows anything you can buy anywhere!

If you want to reduce the cost, simply just buy some watermelon and just juice it, buy some beet and juice that and boom there you go.  Add a scoop of Tectanic Red, Citrulline Peptides, maybe some Creapure, and you have yourself a super potent pre workout.

You have to watch this video on Citrulline because it probably is the best explainer video on citrulline that you’ll ever watch.

If you want, make sure you fast forward to about the 25-minute mark because she talks about increasing protein synthesis.  So does that mean you should add protein to the watermelon juice?  I think so,  you would want to add silk cocoon protein, peptopro, or hydrolyzed whey protein 520.  I would simply add 1 or 2 teaspoons into your watermelon drink.

However, what you really want to do is add citrulline peptides, which are in the same category as my bcaa peptides and leucine peptides.  You probably know what I am thinking already, but yes, you are going to want to add 1 or 2 tsp of citrulline peptides into the watermelon juice and take it pre workout.  I just feel this will be better than anything supplement that you can use.

The Bad Things In Common Pre Workout Supplements

  1. caffeine
  2. artificial sweeteners
  3. artificial colors.  Most contain Red #40.  After a two second search on bodybuilding.com I found one.  Red #40 has been shown to cause cancer.  And this supplement combines it with sucralose and acesulfame K.

4.  Underdosed ingredients.

Most pre workout contains underdosed ingredients.  Dusted in just to put the name on the label, and take advantage of people that do not know the difference between 10 mg and 100 mg.
